Dolphins wide receiver Leonte Carroo won’t be able to make his case for more playing time during the team’s June minicamp.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Carroo will have surgery to clean up loose bodies in his knee and miss the team’s three-day minicamp next week as a result.

Carroo is expected to be ready to go for training camp this summer and many veterans wouldn’t be too impacted by missing a portion of the offseason schedule. Carroo isn’t in the strongest position heading into camp Kenny Moore Jersey , however.

The 2016 third-round pick has played 264 offensive snaps and caught 10 passes over his first two seasons and is behind Danny Amendola, DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson on the depth chart in Miami. Jakeem Grant played about the same amount on offense, but had a bigger special teams role than Carroo and that would seem to make it a real possibility that Carroo will be off the roster come September whether he’s healthy for the start of camp or not.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper came to Boston with a plan to steal back the home-ice advantage that the Bruins took away with their Game 1 win in Tampa.

Now he has bigger goals in mind.

”We can’t exhale,” Cooper said on Thursday, a day after the Lightning beat Boston 4-1 to open a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. ”Just because we picked one up on them http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/davon-house-jersey , we want to make it where we have three chances to knock them out. When you have that chance, you can’t let it slide.”

Since winning the opener, the Bruins have lost two in a row. On Wednesday night, Ondrej Palat scored twice in the first 3:19 of the game to give the Lightning a lead it never relinquished.

”They outworked us last night, there’s no doubt about it,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said.

Game 4 is Friday night (7 p.m. EDT http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/rob-kelley-jersey , NBCSN).

Vegas and San Jose each have a home shutout and a road overtime win through four games of their second-round series. Now it has become a best-of-three for a spot in the Western Conference Final starting with Game 5 (10 p.m. EDT, NBCSN). The Sharks have turned things around completely from Game 1, when they were constantly a step behind the speedier Golden Knights in a 7-0 loss.

San Jose has done a much better job limiting Vegas’ chances since then.

”That 7-0 game was not really us out there,” forward Eric Fehr said. ”We changed a lot of things. We came out flat in that game. I think we’ve done a good job of reeling it in and playing the way we can play. That was a game we just threw in the garbage and turned the page.”

Now the Golden Knights will try to do the same after getting thoroughly outplayed in a 4-0 loss in Game 4.

”It’s a good series, there’s no easy night,” goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said. ”Nobody thought it was going to be an easy series either. We’re in good shape Jack Mewhort Jersey , 2-2, going home.”

SHUFFLING

Cassidy fiddled with his lines in practice on Thursday as he tried to find more offense for a team that seemed to have plenty of it in the first-round series against the Maple Leafs. With Brad Marchand and Jake DeBrusk sitting out of practice – Cassidy said he expects them to play on Friday night – Danton Heinen skated with Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak on the first line and Ryan Donato got time with David Krejci on the second.

After scoring 28 goals in seven games against Toronto and six in the Round 2 opener, Boston was held to a single goal each in back-to-back games.

”We’ll probably tinker,” Cassidy said. ”I’m not going to tell you who’s going in or who’s going out, because we’ve got to get the healthy guys sorted out first.”

ROOKIES IN THE BOOKS

Lightning forward Anthony Cirelli was the 23rd different rookie to score at least one goal in 56 NHL playoff games this year. That’s already more than in all of last year’s postseason. The NHL record is 38 in 1981, but over the past 30 years the most was 28 http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/kendall-wright-jersey , in 1990 and again in ’92.

Boston’s Jake DeBrusk has six this year, leading all rookies. Minnesota North Stars forward Dino Ciccarelli scored 14 goals in ’81, the rookie record for a postseason. Penguins forward Jake Guentzel scored 13 last year and matched Ciccarelli’s point total.

LATROBE Jourdan Lewis Jersey , Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Mason Rudolph exudes confidence heading into his first NFL preseason game Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rudolph admitted that jitters may be there as the Steelers prepare to face the defending Super Bowl champions in Philadelphia. But the Steelers’ third-round pick has settled into a comfort zone two weeks into training camp.

“It’s just football,” Rudolph said. “I think everyone has a little bit of nerves because it’s going to be the first one back. But just like your debut in college, you get out there, you make a completion and it starts flowing like football has always been.”

Rudolph is in a fight for the backup quarterback spot behind Ben Roethlisberger. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Rudolph will see time under center against the Eagles, along with veteran Landry Jones and Josh Dobbs, the Steelers’ fourth-round pick a year ago.

Tomlin is eager to see how Rudolph can direct the offense and maintain possession.

“Mason’s done a really good job, but he hasn’t been hit,” Tomlin said. “Ball security is much more difficult in-stadium because a training camp environment is controlled in a lot of ways. You don’t touch or get close to the quarterback, so a quarterback’s ability to secure the football doesn’t get tested until they play in-stadium preseason football.”

Rudolph will have an opportunity to show how far he’s come since the Steelers traded up to select the Oklahoma State star with the 76th overall pick, the highest the organization has taken a quarterback since Roethlisberger was the 11th overall selection in 2004.

During spring practices, Rudolph impressed, but he also missed a couple center-quarterback exchanges after working almost exclusively out of the shotgun both in high school and at Oklahoma State.

“We cleaned it up for the most part Russ Grimm Jersey ,” Rudolph said. “I’m just starting to feel a lot more comfortable under center after not doing it the last eight years of my life.”

Rudolph also had an inauspicious start at training camp when he ran a bootleg to the right and fumbled his first pass attempt backward. That gaffe is far from Rudolph’s mind.

“I could (not) care less about the first pass,” Rudolph said. “I have a lot of first passes. I had my first pass in OTAs and rookie minicamp. I’m thinking about the next pass. If one play goes bad, the next play can be the one that wins it, or gets you back in the game.”

Rudolph has found his groove after a rocky first week at camp. The rookie looked comfortable and crisp while running the two-minute offense at the end of a practice last week. Rudolph finished the drill an efficient 5 of 6 for 52 yards, which included a practice-ending 14-yard touchdown pass to rookie running back Jaylen Samuels.

“I just want to progress,” Rudolph said. “You obviously dream about playing in the NFL, but once you get here, you take it one day at a time. I think that’s the way I’ve approached practice and it has gone well.

“I’m just focused on completing passes and making sure I’m taking mental steps forward every day.”

The next step forward for Rudolph will be into a NFL stadium for his preseason debut — against an opposing defense.

“You’re playing your own team every single day and you get frustrated because they start to learn your calls, they’re cheating on your install sheet, printing your stuff out and trying to game plan against you,” Rudolph said. “And then you get out there in a game and it’s easy because those guys are scared, they’re all tight Brett Maher Jersey , they want to be in their spots, they don’t want to get yelled at by their coach, and you end up scoring points and driving down the field. That’s the way I feel this will go.”

NOTES: Tomlin said Roethlisberger won’t play Thursday against Philadelphia. . Wide receiver Antonio Brown missed practice again Tuesday, but he worked out alone on an adjoining field. He will miss Thursday’s game along with LBs Bud Dupree and T.J. Watt, and TE Vance McDonald.

Signs posted around the Olympic venues urge extreme caution. Nine hundred troops stream into the area to help. Worried organizers sequester 1,200 people in their rooms.

Officials are scrambling on the eve of the biggest planned event in South Korea in years – not because of anything related to North Korea and national security, but in an attempt to arrest the spread of norovirus at the Pyeongchang Games.

Local media are fretting over a ”virus panic.” South Koreans, always quick to air their views online, have poured scorn on the government’s response and preparations. Are the games hygienic? What will people think about South Korea? Could this spread to the athletes?

Norovirus fears may turn out to be much ado about nothing. But with a national reputation on the line, officials are scrambling to contain its spread. No one here wants these games associated more with disease than athletics in the manner that Zika, a mosquito-borne disease linked to a rare birth defect, loomed over the Rio Olympics in 2016.

According to Olympics organizers Daryl Johnston Jersey , the norovirus spread began Sunday when private security workers staying in the Jinbu area of Pyeongchang started complaining of headaches, stomach pain and diarrhea.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Josh McDaniels has backed out of a deal to become the Indianapolis’ Colts new coach, a decision that shocked the franchise hours after it announced his hiring.

The Colts confirmed McDaniels’ decision in a statement Tuesday night after reports emerged that the Patriots’ offensive coordinator had opted to stay in New England with coach Bill Belichick.

McDaniels had agreed to contract terms with the Colts to replace the fired Chuck Pagano. A news conference had been scheduled for Wednesday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts said McDaniels informed them Tuesday evening that he would not sign the deal.

”Although we are surprised and disappointed, we will resume our head coaching search immediately and find the right fit to lead our team and organization on and off the field,” the Colts said in the statement.

The Patriots and McDaniels’ agent, Bob LaMont, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

By spurning the Colts after they waited 22 days to hire him, McDaniels leaves the reeling franchise as the only one without a coach. New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia left Belichick’s staff a day after the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss to become coach of the Detroit Lions.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski can be heard on a 911 call calmly telling a dispatcher that his home was burglarized while he was at the Super Bowl.

Police in Foxborough, Massachusetts, released a portion of the call on Tuesday.

He can be heard telling the dispatcher on Monday: ”This is Rob Gronkowski calling, and while I was gone my whole house got robbed Charles Clay Jersey , while on the Super Bowl trip. And I just got back.”

A police report says someone broke a window to get in. In a Broadcastify.com recording of a call between responding officers and dispatch, a dispatcher says ”multiple safes and possible guns” were taken.

The police report redacted all details of what was taken.

The report says Gronkowski lives with two roommates, both of whom reported items stolen.

BASKETBALL

NEW YORK (AP) – Knicks All-Star Kristaps Porzingis has torn the ACL in his left knee.

Porzingis was hurt in the second quarter of New York’s loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday night. He dunked with 8:46 left in the half and landed awkwardly, crashing to the court and holding his left knee. He was eventually helped up and taken to the locker room.

He left the arena for an MRI exam that revealed the injury. Porzingis had scored 10 points before he was hurt. He was selected last month for his first All-Star appearance.

NEW YORK (AP) – The Los Angeles Lakers have been fined $50,000 for violating the NBA’s tampering rule again.

League officials made the announcement Tuesday in response to an interview team president Earvin ”Magic” Johnson did with ESPN.

Johnson was discussing the skills of Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo and said the Greek native would put the Bucks ”on the map” and bring them an NBA title.

It’s the third time in less than 12 months the Lakers have been disciplined for tampering.

The team was fined $500,000 last summer after the league found general manager Rob Pelinka had been communicating with Paul George’s agent while George was with the Indiana Pacers. Previously, the NBA issued a warning to the team after Johnson winked at George during a television interview.

WNBA

NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Liberty are remaining under the control of New York Knicks owner James Dolan and Madison Square Garden for now.

The WNBA team was put up for sale in November. An MSG executive confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Dolan’s group has decided to keep the Liberty at this time.

New York will move most of its games out of the Garden this season and into an arena in suburban Westchester County, two people familiar with the situation told the AP. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made.

The Liberty were one of the WNBA’s original franchises and have been owned by Dolan and Madison Square Garden since the league was founded in 1996.

Super Bowl winner Ibraheim Campbell Jersey , cancer survivor and NFLPA treasurer Mark Herzlich was among the 36 player moves made by the New York Giants in getting down to the league's 53-man roster limit.

The Giants announced the moves Saturday in what won't be the last ones for the first team under new coach Pat Shurmur. General manager Dave Gettleman plans to scour the waiver wire this weekend to bolster a team that went 3-13 last season.

There were some surprises. Defensive tackles A.J. Francis and Robert Thomas were released after playing well in the preseason, while free safeties Andrew Adams and Darian Thompson also were let go after contributing much of the past two seasons.

One other surprise was the Giants kept four quarterbacks: Eli Manning, Davis Webb, rookie draft pick Kyle Lauletta and veteran Alex Tanney.

Herzlich, who turned 31 on Saturday, had his contract terminated along with defensive backs Leonard Johnson and Chris Lewis-Harris, and offensive lineman Chris Scott.

Thompson, who missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, and linebacker Jordan Williams (hip/shoulder) were waived-injured.

Waived were: running backs Jalen Simmons and Jhurell Pressley; wide receivers Roger Lewis, Kalif Raymond, Travis Rudolph, Alonzo Russell, Marquis Bundy, Amba Etta-Tawo http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/tony-romo-jersey , and Jawill Davis; tight ends Ryan O'Malley and Garrett Dickerson; offensive linemen Malcolm Bunche, Zac Kerin, and Victor Salako; defensive linemen Thomas, Francis, Tyrell Chavis, and Izaah Lunsford; linebackers Calvin Munson, Warren Long, and Avery Moss; defensive backs Grant Haley, Mike Jones, Orion Stewart, and Adams; and kicker Marshall Koehn.

Offensive linemen Nick Becton (ankle/wrist) and free agent Nick Gates (foot) were placed on injured reserve. Defensive lineman RJ McIntosh, the team's fifth-round draft choice, was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Defensive lineman Josh Mauro will start the season on the reserve/suspended list. He is suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Writing on his Instagram account Saturday, Herzlich said goodbye to New York after seven seasons and signed off with #onceagiantalwaysagiant.

The move leaves quarterback Eli Manning and long snapper Zak DeOssie as the remaining players from Super Bowl-winning team after the 2011 season Cody Whitehair Jersey , Herzlich's rookie season.

The Boston College product beat the odds to make the NFL as an undrafted free agent. He missed the entire 2009 college season after being diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He returned in 2010 and made the Giants the following season.

"Excellence is the result of CARING more than others think is wise; RISKING more than others think is safe. DREAMING more than others think is practical and EXPECTING more than others think is possible," Herzlich wrote in saying goodbye.

Herzlich played in 88 regular-season games with the Giants, making 17 starts and excelling on special teams. He was on injured reserve last season with a stinger.

Five of the team's six draft choices (Saquon Barkley, Will Hernandez, Lorenzo Carter, B.J. Hill, and Lauletta) made the team. Four undrafted rookies and first-year players made roster: center Evan Brown, safety Sean Chandler, linebacker Tae Davis, and running back Robert Martin) along with second-year defensive tackle Josh Banks.

Thompson started all 16 games at safety last season. The third-round pick has battled injuries in his first two seasons and missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Adams had 17 starts in his two seasons in New York, playing in 30 games. He never seemed to fit in the new 3-4 defensive scheme.

With the receiving corps decimated by injuries last season, Lewis started eight games last season, catching 36 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

Moss was a fifth-round draft pick in 2017. He played in 11 games and had two starts but was bothered by injuries in camp.

The Tennessee Titans will be working out veteran safety Eric Reid in their search for a potential replacement after losing Johnathan Cyprien for the season with a torn left ACL Skai Moore Jersey , according to a person familiar with the visit.

Reid will work out for the Titans on Friday, a person familiar with Reid's visit told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not announce which players it is working out.

The Titans will become only the second NFL team to bring Reid in for a visit this year. Reid's visit with the Cincinnati Bengals ended with the safety filing a claim this spring arguing he was unsigned as a result of collusion by NFL owners over his protests of police brutality and racial inequality by kneeling during the anthem.

Coach Mike Vrabel said earlier Thursday that the Titans have looked at Reid.

"I know we're in the process of talking and trying to bring him in," Vrabel said. "(GM) Jon (Robinson) and I will continue to discuss that and see where it goes. Yes, it's a guy we evaluated and we'll probably try to talk to his rep and see how many guys we can bring in here for a workout."

Reid, 26, has been out of work since playing out his contract with San Francisco. He started 69 of 70 games with 10 career interceptions.

The safety said in March that he does not plan to protest during the anthem this season if signed by a team. After he filed his collusion claim, the NFL Players Association also filed a non-injury grievance on Reid's behalf in May. Cincinnati owner Mike Brown reportedly asked Reid during their visit whether he would continue to kneel during the anthem.

The Titans are looking for help at safety after losing Cyprien. The veteran left practice Wednesday after hurting his left knee during a noncontact play. He grabbed at his knee and then walked to the locker room with trainers, waiving off a cart. Cyprien, who signed a four-year deal last season, started 10 games after dealing with an injured hamstring.

Tennessee already has Kendrick Lewis, 30 and with his fourth NFL team, and Demontre Hurst among the other options at safety on the roster. Kenny Vaccaro, who played the last five seasons in New Orleans, and Mike Mitchell also are among veteran safeties currently unsigned.

"Devastated to tell you that after checking him out http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/john-simon-jersey , he tore his ACL and he'll be out for a year, which is tough for me as is a new head coach to watch guys work hard, extremely hard, in the offseason and care about the team and play hard and do everything that we've asked them to do and then not get a chance to experience the NFL season this year," Vrabel said.

Tennessee already has All-Pro Kevin Byard at the other safety spot, with Logan Ryan, Adoree Jackson and free agent signee Malcolm Butler at cornerback for a unit that has its sights set on being the NFL's best secondary. Ryan said at least the Titans have time to adjust.

"It tests our depth, but some of that's been well-documented that we feel like we have good depth so it's going to show it ...," Ryan said. "This didn't happen the day before the first game. It's giving us time to work out the kinks. They might move me around a little bit and allow me to do more things in the secondary if need be and get more of our guys on the field."

Something about the big moments brings out the best in Mitch Haniger.

His two-run home run in the ninth on Wednesday Dalton Schultz Jersey , after a stellar defensive play in the top of the inning, gave the Seattle Mariners an 8-6 victory and sweep of the three-game series over the Los Angeles Angels.

”We have such a powerful lineup,” Haniger said. ”On any given night it can be somebody else and that’s kind of the vibe. There’s no panic.”

Haniger, who has 16 home runs this season and 52 RBIs, has an MLB-best 11 game-winning hits – including his second game-ending homer on Wednesday.

After Jean Segura singled to center off reliever Oliver Drake (0-1), Haniger sent a pitch over the left-field wall off to end it.

Nelson Cruz and Ryon Healy also homered for Seattle, and Healy’s upper-deck shot in the eighth inning tied the game at 6-6. Cruz hit a two-run homer in the second inning Jamison Crowder Jersey , his fourth in his last five games and 16th of the season.

The home run by Haniger, who was 2-for-5 and scored two runs, was his second big play of the ninth inning. He also made an outstanding defensive play in right field for the second consecutive game.

With one out and a runner at first, Martin Maldonado hit fly ball to deep right that was tailing away from Haniger. However, he raced to make the catch before throwing it on the fly to Healy in the infield. Healy ran to first to double off Jabari Blash, who was pinch running for Albert Pujols.

The Mariners have won six of their last seven games and 11 of their last 13. Roenis Elias (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Seattle starter Marco Gonzales allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings.

Wednesday’s game had plenty of drama – including two times when the game was tied and two lead changes.

”I don’t know where to start with this game Randy White Jersey ,” said Seattle manager Scott Servais. ”It had a little bit of everything in it.”

Seattle built a 4-1 lead in the third inning and led 4-3 before the Angels came back to tie it in sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Valbuena. Home runs by Nolan Fontana and Chris Young gave the Angels a 6-4 lead in the seventh.

The Angels had won six consecutive games before coming to Seattle.

”It says a lot the way our guys came back,” Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. ”But unfortunately it was one of those days when our bullpen was stretched a bit after having to use them a lot, and we couldn’t get it done at the end.”

INJURED ANGELS

Angels starting pitcher Garrett Richards left the game after two innings because of tightness in his left hamstring. Shortstop Zack Cozart left the game in the fourth inning because of a left shoulder strain.

SEAGER SCRATCHED

Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager was a late scratch from the starting lineup Wednesday, but he is not injured. Mariners officials said it was a personal issue, and Andrew Romine started at third in his place.

SERVAIS’ NEW LOOK

Before the season started, Servais said he would get a haircut just like Edwin Diaz if the closer reached 50 saves this season. Diaz, who has a Z-like symbol shaved into the left side of his head http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/vladimir-ducasse-jersey , already has an MLB-best 25 saves this season and is on pace to reach 55 saves. ”I’m aware,” Servais said. ”I’m already talking to barbers. I’m OK with that.”

TRAINER’S ROOM

Angels: OF Kole Calhoun (oblique strain) started a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Mariners: RHP Nick Vincent (groin strain) and RHP Juan Nicasio (knee swelling) both are expected to throw in the bullpen Friday on Saturday. Servais said he hopes both relievers can come of the 10-day DL by the middle up the upcoming 10-day road trip that starts in New York against the Yankees on June 19.

UP NEXT

Angels: LHP Tyler Skaggs (5-4, 3.08) tries to continue his June hot streak when the Angels play the Athletics on Friday in Oakland. Skaggs is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in his previous two starts this month. Trevor Cahill (1-2, 2.27) is expected to start for Oakland.

Mariners: Felix Hernandez (6-5, 5.70) is on the mound to start a four-game home series against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Hernandez is coming off his shortest outing of the season when he took the loss at Tampa Bay, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in the 7-3 loss. David Price (7-4, 4.00) is the expected starter for Boston.

The Alliance of American Football has signed its first 100 players for the new spring league Bob Lilly Jersey , including former high-profile recruits Ty Isaac and receiver Chris Black.

The AAF begins a 10-game regular season with eight teams in February. The first batch of players to sign the league's standard three-year deal worth $250,000 was announced Monday . The players are allocated based on where they played in college or professionally. Players without geographic ties to an AAF team are allowed to sign with any team.

Players who receive NFL contracts will be allowed to break deals with the AAF, which was founded by TV and film producer Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian.

While new Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper would like the focus to be on his plans for the team's future Trey Burton Jersey , he cannot completely put the franchise's sullied past behind him.

Tepper has to keep the prominent statue of Panthers' founder Jerry Richardson outside of the stadium as part of the NFL-record $2.2 billion deal he agreed to in June after Richardson decided to sell the team in December amid reports of sexual and racial misconduct in the workplace.

Tepper said Tuesday when he was introduced as the team's new owner that he's "contractually obligated" to keep the 13-foot high statue of Richardson standing alongside two growling panthers where it is.

The league substantiated the allegations against Richardson following a six-month investigation and fined him $2.75 million.

Fans have expressed their desire on social media and sports talk shows to remove the statue, which was built in 2016.

And while Tepper said contractually he can't do that, he spoke repeatedly about changing the environment of the Panthers workplace.

Tepper said there will be "no impediment" in employees feeling comfortable coming forward if they if they have any problems on the business side of the organization.

He wants to create an environment where "everybody feels safe like a family."

Sports Illustrated reported in December, citing unnamed sources, that Richardson made sexually suggestive comments to women and on at least one occasion directed a racial slur at an African-American Panthers scout. The report states that he reached settlements that included non-disclosure requirements forbidding the parties from discussing the details.

"Listen, whatever was, was. This is now," Tepper said. "This is going to be an open place. So there are not going to be non-disclosure agreements, no matter what Mason Crosby Jersey , in this new place. That was then, this is now."

The Panthers are only tied to Charlotte through June 2019 in terms of a stadium agreement, but Tepper reiterated the city is "the most logical place" to keep the team, although adding that a "redo" is necessary.

The Panthers and the city of Charlotte came to an agreement on improvements for the team's stadium in 2013, calling for the city to contribute about $87 million for renovations to Bank of America Stadium in exchange for a six-year hard tether to keep the NFL franchise in Charlotte.

Tepper's focus right now is on new practice facilities.

He said the Panthers are "falling behind a little bit" other teams in the league.

He is considering moving the team's practice facilities to South Carolina, in part to keep both states interested in the team. The Panthers currently practice on three fields within walking distance to their downtown stadium. Tepper said that valuable land could be used for developmental purposes.

Tepper, who grew up playing football, also said he wants more events at the team's stadium, including high school state championship football games and the "right kind of concerts."

He is excited about the football side of the team Adam Shaheen Jersey , praising two-time AP Coach of the Year Ron Rivera and his hiring of new offensive coordinator Norv Turner to replace Mike Shula.

"I'm not looking to do too much there," Tepper said of the coaching side.

However, Tepper plans to hire a new team president to replace Danny Morrison, who left last year, and former COO Tina Becker, who resigned on Monday after seven months in the position. He said he has two replacement candidates in mind, both with some marketing background.

He also likes the makeup of the team's roster with training camp right around the corner, citing how involved players are in the community and charity work.

He cited Spider-Man, saying that "with great power comes great responsibility."

Spain has made a coaching change just two days before the start of the World Cup in a move that will be heavily scrutinized over the coming weeks.

Was it a surprise move? Absolutely.

But the history of coaching dismissals in soccer and every other sport is littered with strange timing Kenny Clark Jersey , strange decisions and strange circumstances. Now Julen Lopetegui’s case joins them.

Lopetegui was fired as Spain’s national team coach on Wednesday after accepting a job to lead Real Madrid next season . He will be replaced by Fernando Hierro for the country’s match against Portugal on Friday.

Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales said firing Lopetegui wasn’t ideal, but had to happen after Madrid’s announcement.

”It’s a difficult situation, but we are not the ones who determined the action that had to be taken. The federation has its values and it has to maintain them,” Rubiales said. ”It may look like a weakness now, but with time this will make us stronger.”

Here’s a look at some other high-profile coaches in the United States who have had strange circumstances surround their dismissals:

LANE KIFFIN, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: Kiffin’s self-described dream job ended with a spectacular thud in 2013 after he was fired during a 3 a.m. meeting at the Trojans’ private airport terminal. His dismissal came just hours after the team lost 62-41 to Arizona State. At the time, USC athletic director Pat Haden said ”It’s never the perfect time to do these things, but I thought it was the right time.”

WILLIE RANDOLPH, NEW YORK METS: Randolph’s firing in 2008 wasn’t necessarily a huge surprise because his job security had been a constant topic Mitch Unrein Jersey , but the timing was definitely strange. General manager Omar Minaya flew to the West Coast when the Mets were on the road and fired Randolph in the middle of the night, a few hours after the team had earned its third win in four games.

DAVID BLATT, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS: Blatt led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2015 and had the team sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings in 2016 with a 30-11 record when he fired. Wins alone didn’t tell the whole story – Blatt and star LeBron James had an uneven relationship. Cleveland elevated Tyronn Lue to head coach and the Cavaliers won the championship later that year.

HUGH FREEZE, MISSISSIPPI REBELS: Freeze led Mississippi to a 39-25 record and a Sugar Bowl victory over five seasons. He looked like he was going to survive a lengthy NCAA investigation into the program, but was fired just before preseason practice in 2017 when school officials found a ”pattern of personal misconduct” that started with an investigation into a one-minute call to an escort service.

JOE GIRARDI, FLORIDA MARLINS: Girardi led the Marlins to a 78-84 record during the 2006 season which was quite an accomplishment considering the franchise had a $15 million payroll which was the lowest in baseball that season. His firing wasn’t necessarily about things that happened on the field: Girardi and team owner Jeffrey Loria clashed after Girardi asked Loria to stop yelling at umpires from his seat behind home plate. Girardi would eventually be hired by the Yankees and lead them to a World Series title in 2009.

The kid has a sense of humor Clinton Portis Jersey , too.

Sam Darnold kept a straight face for a split-second as he answered a question about what he could've done differently on his first pass in the New York Jets' season opener in Detroit.

You know, the one that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown before many fans were even settled into their seats Monday night.

"Yeah, I mean, not throw it," the rookie quarterback deadpanned Wednesday before breaking into a full grin. "That's the easy answer."

Darnold went on to explain how he could have kept rolling to his right and either thrown the ball away or eventually found an open receiver once he noticed Lions safety Quandre Diggs sitting back in the secondary, ready to pick him off.

It was an early learning moment in the Jets' 48-17 rout , and a mistake from which he was able to bounce back.

"I thought, obviously, I could clean things up here and there," Darnold said. "After I put the first play behind me, I thought I played really well."

Darnold finished 16 of 21 for 198 yards and touchdowns to Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa, checking off a list of personal firsts 鈥?first game, first start, first TD, first INT, first victory 鈥?in the NFL.

"To get my first win under my belt, that's a really good feeling, more than anything Da'Ron Payne Jersey ," he said. "Just to be able to win a game in the NFL and know I can do it, even though I did know that I could do it. It's just a nice feeling to actually go out there and execute with my teammates, especially the way that we did.

"But, yeah, moving forward, I'm confident in myself and confident in my teammates, as we all are in each other."

During the few days since Darnold's debut, both coach Todd Bowles and team chairman/CEO Christopher Johnson have referred to the 21-year-old quarterback as "an old soul."

They have praised his even-keeled approach and exceptional work ethic, the likes of which are rare for rookies at this point in their careers.

One game in, the No. 3 overall draft pick out of USC is getting rave reviews from fans and national media, too. With a terrific prime-time performance, the Jets quarterback is already achieving celebrity status.

And through it all, Darnold remains unfazed.

"You know, just from being at SC, I'm used to some attention," he said. "I know leading up to my last year at SC, it was kind of hectic, in terms of Heisman (Trophy) talk and all that kind of stuff http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jaire-alexander-jersey , but, you know, I'm pretty used to that.

"But, it's different now, being in the NFL and all of these expectations and everything. It's different, but at the same time I'm just going to continue to be myself.

"I've been myself my entire career 鈥?high school, college, now the NFL 鈥?and I don't see myself changing any time soon."

That's precisely what made scouts so fond of Darnold, on top of his physical talents. The fact he maintains a cool about him in the face of pressure is extremely unique.

Now, here in New York, Darnold is shouldering the burden of trying to help deliver a frustrated franchise a Super Bowl someday.

It has been 50 years since Joe Namath backed up his guarantee, and Darnold is the 31st quarterback to start a game since Broadway Joe's final game for the team in 1976.

But maybe 鈥?just maybe 鈥?the Jets have their franchise quarterback?

"We won one game," Bowles said. "I can tell you after about 100 more of them whether we have one or not. Right now, it's a little early."

No doubt about it. And, Darnold's next big test comes Sunday in the Jets' home opener against the AFC East-rival Miami Dolphins.

If he plays a good game and wins that one, too, the hype around Darnold will really start to build.

Not that anyone will need to worry about how the youngster will handle it all.

"I haven't been paying much attention, but I'm sure people are talking about how good they expect our team to be in the next few years http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/brian-urlacher-jersey ," Darnold said.

"I'm just going to continue to focus on the next game. That's all I can control and that's what I'm going to do every single week."

NOTES: WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) was a full participant in practice after missing the game at Detroit. "We're going to evaluate him during the week, see how he does," Bowles said. "He's got to get his wind up and we have to see if there is any aftereffects." ... S Marcus Maye (foot), LB Josh Martin (concussion) and LB Neville Hewitt (knee) were the only players who didn't practice. ... LB Kevin Pierre-Louis was activated from the suspended list, and OL Ben Braden was waived to make room on the roster.

On June 7, the Colorado Rockies were tied for first place in the National League West and riding high. In the week since, the Rockies have lost five straight games and come to the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Friday with as many questions as answers about themselves as the season heads into the dog days of summer.

Colorado begins a three-game interleague series with the Texas Rangers, a team also in search of answers, at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.

The Rockies will send right-hander Chad Bettis (4-1, 4.40 ERA) to the mound for the opening game and the Rangers will counter with Yohander Mendez (0-0, 0.00).

Colorado activated right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino from the disabled list Thursday, and manager Bud Black said Ottavino would go right back into his late-game role.

Ottavino had a 0.95 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings before going to the disabled with a left oblique injury. The team went 5-9 without him in the lineup.

“Otto feels that he wants to jump right back into the mix of pitching deep in the game,” Black told mlb.com. “He’s ready for that. He doesn’t necessarily want to ease back in. Physically, he made it a point of emphasis to get his body in the best shape possible in the offseason. The year before, it wasn’t the case.”

Ottavino did not see action in the Rockies’ 9-3 loss at Philadelphia but will be ready when Colorado takes on hapless Texas.

The Rangers will attempt to end a six-game losing streak that included a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in 11 innings in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

With one out and the bases loaded, the Dodgers‘ Austin Barnes dribbled what appeared to be a sure out at home in front of Rangers reliever Matt Bush. However, Bush’s throw to home for the force pulled catcher Carlos Perez off the plate Dalton Schultz Jersey , allowing Enrique Hernandez to score the deciding run.

Texas is now a season-worst 18 games back of the first-place Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros in the American League West after suffering a two-game sweep by the Dodgers.

Bettis gave up three home runs and lasted just four innings in his last start, a home loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The good news is his velocity returned after a dip for three starts. He is a Lubbock, Texas, native who pitched at Texas Tech University.

Bettis will make his 14th start of the season and his eighth on the road. He has no-decisions and a 7.67 ERA in his past six starts since May 11.

Bettis has pitched against Texas only once, getting a no-decision on Aug. 11, 2016, in Arlington, a 12-9 Rockies win.

Mendez will make his first big league start Friday. In 10 minor league starts this season, he has an 0-6 record with a 5.26 ERA. In one relief appearance with the Rangers this year, he didn’t allow a run in two-thirds of an inning.

Mendez, who is ranked the Rangers’ seventh-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, has joined the ballclub from Triple-A Round Rock. He has been a September call-up for Texas each of the past two seasons, and featured with the Rangers earlier this season when he was called up May 3.

In 10 career major league appearances — all in relief — Mendez has posted a 0-1 record with a 7.31 ERA (13 earned runs in 16 innings).

“It’s going to be multiple starts,” Texas manager Jeff Banister said Wednesday about Mendez’s upcoming major league stint. “He’s going to have the opportunity to show us what he can do as a starter.

“We’re still in the business of winning baseball games,” Banister added. “It’s about development, but it is the big leagues, and you still develop and still give yourself the opportunity to win baseball games.”

As checkered playoff histories go Kenny Clark Jersey , the Washington Capitals haven’t been around nearly as long as some NHL teams. The track record was still long and sad.

There was Pat Lafontaine of the Islanders beating them in the four-overtime ”Easter Epic” back in 1987. Esa Tikkanen missing a wide-open net in the Stanley Cup Final loss to Detroit in 1998.

Heck, losing nine of 11 postseason meetings against the Pittsburgh Penguins alone is filled to the brim with gut-wrenching letdowns.

The puck finally bounced the right way for the Capitals, who built a 3-1 lead in the Final against Vegas after some rare postseason fortune and wrapped it up Thursday night in Game 5. Lars Eller’s double-overtime winner off his right skate kept his team out of a 3-0 hole in the first round. Then came a cathartic, six-game elimination of the Penguins behind a patchwork lineup full of rookies.

Against the Golden Knights, Braden Holtby made the stick save of a lifetime to lock up a Game 2 win and opponent James Neal clanked a shot off the post in Game 4, staring at as much net as Tikkanen had 20 years ago.

It’s as though all the bad breaks from the previous 42 seasons of Washington Capitals hockey are being erased – or at least somewhat forgotten – in a run that could deliver the franchise’s first title.

”It’s like the franchise was star-struck,” said David Poile, who was Washington’s general manager from 1982-1995.

”They’ve had all these really good teams, all of these opportunities that appeared that this could be the year that they could win playoff rounds and compete for the Cup or win the Stanley Cup. … It just feels like – as Barry Trotz would say – the hockey gods have evened things out.”

Before this spring, the Capitals had made it past the second round of the playoffs just twice and reached the final once, when Tikkanen and Co. were swept by the Red Wings. Abe and Irene Pollin, the longtime owners of the Capitals and NBA’s Bullets/Wizards, had to learn how to handle losing.

”My husband and I had developed a habit of when we lost, we would go to eat frozen custard to help us deal with the loss,” Irene Pollin recalled.

There were a lot of chances for custard: Teams leading 3-1 in a best-of-seven series have won 91 percent of the time (276-28). Of those 28, the Capitals have blown such a lead five times – the most of any team. There was no such falloff this time.

Winning just one game against the expansion Golden Knights already made this the most successful season in the history of a franchise that began in 1974-75. It was Quinton Dunbar Jersey , by the way, the worst first-year team in NHL history (8-67-5) that developed into a team known for postseason failures – which only worsened in the Alex Ovechkin era.

For many of the players who have been through it all, the strong showing against Vegas was long overdue.

”I’m part of history. I’m part of not winning a Cup here for a long time,” said longtime scoring winger Peter Bondra, who played for the Capitals from 1990-2004.

”I don’t even play, but I feel like a part of this team, believe it or not. It’s just something in it. Obviously, I play here for 14 years, I grew up here with the team as a player, my family grew up here.”

After missing the playoffs in their first eight seasons, there was a ”Save the Caps” campaign in 1982 just to keep them around and in Washington.

”We couldn’t sell tickets,” said Irene Pollin, now 93. ”We went to Montreal to fight for the franchise, So for three days and three nights we were up and I was in a nightgown typing letters to the president and everybody to have them send letters to the league because they kept saying, `Washington is a southern city, it’ll never be a hockey town.”’

Abe Pollin that summer hired Poile as his general manager. When the 33-year-old executive asked for a three-year contract Jamison Crowder Jersey , Pollin agreed but only after telling Poile he’d better do well in the first season or the franchise might fold.

Less than two weeks later, Poile changed the course of the franchise by acquiring eventual Hall of Fame defenseman Rod Langway. Washington made the playoffs in all 13 seasons with Poile in charge but couldn’t break through.

”We had to play against some of the great teams ever in the NHL: We had to go against the Islanders who won four straight, the Rangers were always on the border, Pittsburgh when Mario (Lemieux) came in,” said Langway, who played 11 seasons for the Capitals. ”We challenged them, we competed with them, but we couldn’t get over the hump.”

That became the Capitals’ unwelcome hallmark. Plenty of times an improbable play ended a promising run, whether it was the Rangers’ Pierre Larouche beating Pete Peeters from a sharp angle in 1986 or Lafontaine’s shot through traffic for the Game 7 winner a year later early on Easter morning at the Capital Centre in nearby Landover, Maryland.

”To me, that is sort of what happened, the epitome of what has happened to this franchise,” said winger-turned-broadcaster Craig Laughlin, who came to Washington in the Langway trade and never left. ”We didn’t get those type of bounces. It seemed like every other team did but we didn’t.”

That continued to Tikkanen in 1998 and into the ”Rock the Red” era with Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. They lost in overtime of Game 7 in 2008 on a Flyers power play, in 2009 on home ice when the Penguins blew them out, in 2010 when Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 41 of 42 shots in Game 7 Russell Bodine Jersey , in 201

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans released veteran punter Shane Lechler just before what would have been his 19th NFL season.

Lechler was let go after the Texans decided to go with undrafted rookie Trevor Daniel.

The 42-year-old Lechler spent the first 13 years of his career with the Raiders before joining the Texans in 2013. He started 206 games for Oakland and never missed a game as a Texan, making all 80 starts in his five seasons with the team.

Coach Bill O’Brien said making the final cuts to the roster are always hard, but that this one is particularly difficult.

“Shane Lechler’s one of the best pros I’ve ever been around, and if you look back at kind of who I’ve been around, I’ve been around some good pros, and he’s one of the best, he said.

Lechler, a fifth-round draft pick out of Texas A&M in 2000, was a seven-time Pro Bowler and was first-team All-Pro six times. He ranks second in NFL history with 1,444 punts for 68,676 yards.

“He was a great leader here, was a captain,” O’Brien said. “In my opinion, he’s a Hall of Fame punter. So, we had a good talk this morning and we decided to head in that direction. … We try to make decisions in the best interest of the team, but sometimes those decisions are very difficult.”

Lechler is the all-time NFL leader in yards per punt with 47.6 and he led the league in yards per punt in five seasons. He was in the top 10 in 11 other years. He led the NFL in punting yards in four seasons Quenton Nelson Jersey , including last year when he had 4,507.

In 2011 he had a career-long punt of 80 yards, which led the NFL that year, and he also had the longest punt in the league in 2003 when he booted one 73 yards.

Lechler went to high school in East Bernard, Texas where he was the team’s quarterback, kicker and punter before a four-year career at Texas A&M, where he was the team’s punter and kicked off for the Aggies.

“Shane’s a Texas legend,” O’Brien said. “He’s a guy who grew up in this state, comes from a coaches’ family, I have a great deal of respect for Shane and wish him the best.”

O’Brien said he doesn’t believe Daniel will be under any extra pressure to perform because he’s replacing someone like Lechler.

“It’s the National Football League. That’s a part of the deal,” he said. “We’re all here to produce and to try to perform, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Vic Beasley had a season to mostly forget last year.

Now that the Atlanta Falcons have put him back full-time at defensive end Josh Sitton Jersey , he's looking to regain the form that made him the NFL sacks leader two years ago.

Beasley, though, isn't making big promises in the second week of training camp. As much as he wants to get back to the top, he says the best approach is to stay humble, fill his role and let everything else work itself out.

"I know the guys have a lot of faith in me and the coaches do also, so we're just going to go out there and give our best effort and do what we can to get where we want to be," Beasley said Wednesday.

The Falcons had solid results last season under first-year defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel. They improved 17 spots to a No. 9 ranking in points allowed. They were among the top 10 in total yards, yards rushing, red zone percentage and scoring.

But Beasley was a small part of the story. He had just five sacks Paul Hornung Jersey , 10 1/25 fewer than during his first season under coach Dan Quinn, and he wanted to produce more.

Moving to outside linebacker on 30 percent of the snaps didn't help. Beasley dropped some weight to play the new position and he ran so much in coverage and in defending the run that his energy level sometimes lagged when he lined up at end. He didn't have the same explosiveness coming out of his stance and beating blocks.

"He was always a nickel defensive end," Quinn said. "We played almost 70 percent of our snaps in nickel, but in the base one, due to injuries, that's why we moved him there. He was there a little bit by necessity, and sometimes that's the best thing to do. For us it was in this case."

Not anymore. Quinn wants to unleash Beasley exclusively at end with Takk McKinley starting on the opposite side after a promising rookie season.

"That's where he's best," Quinn said, "playing defensive end all the time."

Beasley took some pointers Wednesday from former Falcons ends Patrick Kerney and Chuck Smith Nick Perry Jersey , who combined for 141 NFL sacks. He got two different perspectives in technique. Kerney played long and rangy. Smith was more compact. Both gave Beasley a few ideas about timing, footwork and hand placement.

Beasley gets daily suggestions from his position coach Bryant Young, the former San Francisco star tackle who finished a 14-year career in 2007 with 89 1/2 sacks.

Young believes Beasley's time at linebacker will benefit him long-term because it's made him better against the run.

"He's a very strong individual, plays with good technique, and I think a lot of times he doesn't get credit for his run game, which is really important in this league as well," Young said. "The big, pretty numbers are in the sacks, and we understand that Reggie White Jersey , but it's also important that you stop the run."

Beasley is eager to show what he can do. He played end exclusively throughout his career before last year.

"As a linebacker you normally drop into coverage and you dial up blitzes every now and then, but as a defensive end you're pretty much a straight-ahead guy," Beasley said. "Just get after the quarterback."

Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. wants a new contract, but he has no plans to hold out of training camp to get it.

Beckham hosted a football camp today and spoke very briefly to reporters, who asked him whether they’ll see him at training camp.

“Yes, you will,” Beckham answered.

So Beckham will not hold out?

“No holdout,” he said.

The next question, however http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/jordan-howard-jersey , is whether Beckham will be a full participant in training camp. Beckham has been cleared to practice after the broken leg that ended his season last year, but he didn’t do much at the Giants’ mandatory minicamp. Might he show up to training camp to avoid getting fined, but say he doesn’t feel ready to practice if the Giants haven’t taken care of him contractually?

That question hasn’t been answered yet, and likely won’t be until the Giants report to camp in late July.
